Millennials (ages 21-35) are dominating the real estate market in Des Moines. They have found that putting their hard earned money into rent is a waste and they want the return on their investment. They are taking advantage of the strong real estate market and the low interest rates to make this happen. This makes Metro Des Moines the only market millennials counted for more than half of the mortgage applicants.
The three main reasons are strong job market, cheap homes and a strong pipeline of young people moving into the metro. This is not a new trend for Des Moines as they were recognized as one of the top 10 cities for millennial home buyers in 2014. Expectations for a stronger 2016 is predicted. Millennials are finally seeing the value of Des Moines.
